Present Plight of Mal Pragati Sangh Town Library
Once thriving in the middle of its own small community, Mal Pragati Sangh Town Library has been "Mecca" for all book lovers. People used to throng the library and used to borrow books heavily. It had served its purpose well. But until recently challenges in different disguise has crippled its services.
Water is dripping from cracked rooftops. Many books are damaged. Conservation and bookbindings have not been done for many years. Thus we have lost some rare and valuable books and many more are not readworthy any more. Lack of space in library and reading room is creating congestion.
What is alarming is that reader's flow is receding day by day. The library lacks the childrens storybooks, Contemporary world literatures. Without them it is hard to captivate the attention of new generation.
Hence the "Pragati Sangh Readers Forum" came into being. The sole purpose of this entity is to help the libraries to meet the emerging challenges. And make the book reading experience more exiting & enjoyable.
In years it will focus on the other small libraries that also face similar problems. We will help them through providing financial & logistical support.
Our main emphasis will be on kids. They are the future of this turbulent world. Reading books can guide them to become the savior of this society. Organizing various workshops like story reading and creative writing will serve this purpose.

.How you can be a part of our mission?
(1) You can donate fund or can help raising fund for construction , renovation and extension for libraries
(Fund is not a great concern as the Raja Rammohon Roy Library Foundation gives grant to libraries but legal status of our library land is not as per with their requirements. It's a lease land from Zila Parishad and Government policy is they won't give the libraries any fund unless the library has its own land)
.(2) Through donating books.
(3) To become resource persons in above mentioned workshops.
